Tile Installation

Tile comes in an endless combinations of colors, textures, sizes, and shapes. In addition it is very durable and holds up with high traffic areas.

Before You Start

Before you start, you want to choose a mortar and tile. There are variety of choices when it comes to the type of tile, tile sizes, tile ratings, porosity, firing and the type of mortar.

Tile Rating and Porosity

Tile ratings show how durable the tile is, while porosity is the ratio of void (air holes) to solid. The denser the solid the less moisture it will absorb.

The Porcelain Enamel Institute hardness ratings are class I (no foot traffic) to class V (Heavy to extra heavy traffic).

Both rating and porosity are crucial considerations for the bathroom and kitchen since these areas need moisture-proof flooring.
